Talk About A Double Header!
Going from the Heartland Nationals last week to the PPG Nats this week; I must say I feel like I have died and gone to Hot Rod heaven! This show is fantastic. Honestly, what else is there to say. It is a one of a kind show and I am having the time of my life.
Oh and a Happy Collector Car Appreciation Day to you all. Yep today, the second Friday in July, is the second annual National Collector Car Appreciation Day and where better to celebrate than at the largest gathering of classics, customs and hot rods going on in the Nation this weekend, the Good Guys PPG Nationals. This show just has to be seen to be believed.
This is just the tip of the custom, hot rod and classic "iceberg".
There are 2 huge awards given out this weekend above and beyond Builder's Choice and the GoodGuys and Sponsor awards. The 2011 Street Machine of the Year and well as Street Rod of the Year will be crowned this weekend at the PPG Nats. So.......... there's a little something extra in the air here in Columbus.
Here are a few of the contenders for "Street Machine of the Year".
Have a look at some of the "Street Rod Of The Year" hopefuls.
To qualify in the Street Machine of the Year, each car has to run the AutoCross three times. Let's just say what these rides "lack" in speed around the course, they make up in their fit and finish. These rides are some of the finest in the country and they are out on the track - they earn the name!
Now, you just saw these two next rides in action but, they are so different I thought they deserved a closer look. Yes, that's a Chrysler Imperial Speedster. Have you ever seen anything like it?
Stay tuned, it's only the first day of the PPG Nats. and there's tons more to come. My coverage will be a little late tomorrow because I will be hanging around to hear who wins the Street Machine of the Year as well as Street Rod of 2011. I think you know who I'm pulling for!
