Orphan Auto Picnic

It was a picture perfect day at the Kendall County Fairgrounds made even more picturesque by the eye candy parked throughout.  Yes my friends, it's that time of year again - time for the 21st annual Orphan Auto Picnic.  Now, talk about a die hard bunch.  When your ride is a Metropolitan, a Corvair or a Velorex ( there's some trivia for you) you know that's real commitment.  The level of passion among the owners of these automotive Orphans is second to none.  You're lucky if you see a Henry J or Metropolitan at a car show or a cruise night, not to mention when do you ever see a Hudson Hollywood Hornet?  Well, if you were at the 21st Annual OAP you saw that and a whole lot more.  The dedication to these bygone brands is remarkable.  Preserving these off the beaten path gems takes  a unique individual and my hat comes off to each and everyone that was out for the day.

My hat also comes off for the Chicagoland Corvair Enthusiasts who organize this shin dig.  Strictly a volunteer event, it was one of the most seamless shows I've seen.  Some of the National guys could learn a thing or two about putting on an event. from the Chicagoland Corvair Enthusiasts.  I might add that this event was donations only not just for admission but for a cup of brew too!

Here are just a few of the sweet rides at the 2011 OAP

I know I didn't get everyone but here is a good (if I do say so myself) representation of the show.  I know I missed the DeLorean, there were just too many people around it!  I can see why Christopher Lloyd thought it was the best replica he'd ever seen.  Oh, and I wonder if Ralph Nader is on Facebook, I have a few pics I'd love to share.   - seems as if we are having some audio trouble?

Stay tuned my friends, I have a back up of great things to bring you.

Til the next time - Keep on Kruzin!
