MVL Howard's Blog - Music in the Park
As promised the write up from our new friend from the Van Nats. MVL Howard. He's a gear head about town with a camera in his hand and wants to show us what he's been up to. Take it away Howard .........
Bensenville, Illinois is a small suburb located hard by the western edge of O'Hare airport, and next to one of the area's oldest and largest rail classification yards. Like many Chicago suburbs, the city is always looking for ways to enhance the downtown experience. For the last several years they have hosted Music in the Park on summer Wednesday nights.
The evening includes a car show on the streets surrounding the park, which draws a nice selection of local cars. Every week features a marque, but all are welcome. Variety and uniqueness are always evident in the show, which this week featured such diverse vehicles as a DeLorean, a 60s Corvair Convertible, and a 1939 Ford COE truck with a hand fabbed pickup bed. The entertainment varies week to week also, ranging from Motown and soul to 80s hair bands to top pop acts to arena rock tribute bands. There are numerous local food booths, but folks are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and coolers. The park itself is beautiful, with ample room and thousands of tiny white lights sparkling in the trees as the sun sets.We are midway through the summer, but if you are in the area, bring that ride out to Bensenville on a Wednesday, meet some new people, and enjoy some live music on a summer night...
