Gilmore Car Museum
Location. location. location. I know that is the rule of thumb for real estate but friends, I think the same holds true for car shows. The right show combined with the right location and it is automotive bliss. Such was the bliss a the Relix Riot this past August and the location perfection was the Gilmore Car Museum.
You've seen my coverage of the Relix Riot and it was awesome but the show had some stiff competition for my attention from the museum where the show was situated. Never before have I experienced a car museum at the level of the Gilmore Car Museum. In a word, this place is phenomenal. The attention to detail, the variety of rides and the scope of the displays boggles the mind. The grounds were meticulous, the exhibits flawless and the art collection that accompanied the exhibits and that was displayed throughout the grounds put the experience into the stratosphere. And when I say experience, it was an all encompassing visceral trip through automotive history, can you tell I enjoyed it? The history behind Gilmore is fantastic. It started when Donald Gilmore received a "project car" from his wife Genevieve for his birthday. As with many the hobby turned collection but for Mr. Gilmore his collection bloomed into the incredible museum we can all enjoy today.
Have a look for yourself but this is one of those places you really have to see for yourself. Oh and did I mention they have a fully operational diner and the chocolate malts are out of this world! Put the Gilmore Car Museum on your Bucket List, you've got to trust me on this!
There are more pics in the Most Recent Show Gallery so you can check out more unbelievable details from the museum. If you are in or around the Kalamazoo area I cannot recommend more highly a stop at the Gilmore Auto Museum.. You can check out more details at their website. Plan a visit and experience a one of a kind trip through automotive history.
Til the next time - Keep on Kruzin!
