Gears & Ears 2012
Gears & Ears 2012 was fantastic. It's one of the premier shows in Illinois and with a turnout of over 500 quailty rides I can see why. It's hosted by the Midwest Street Rod Association of Illinois. They've been putting on different incarnations of this show for 35 years. I guess the more recent shows are more "politically correct and family friendly" than those from the past but, regardless of the "version" they sure know how to put on a show. It's open to all cars but was heavy on the rods, customs and classics we love.
The thing I dig the most about this show are the totally unique, one of a kind, trophies, hand crafted by the members. They are given out to 100 lucky attendees on a "Just Cause" basis, that is "Just Cause their ride is cool". It's that kind of attitude that made this a lighthearted, fun event.
Now, I haven't mentioned the "Ears" part. That would be 2,856 delicious ears of sweet corn, roasted to perfection by varions members of the club. Now tell me, does it get any better than strolling the fairground, which I might add is great venue, with an ear of roasted sweet corn, dripping butter all over, checking out some of the coolest rides around. I think not. That my friends is a day well spent. Rock on MSRA!
Check out my entire gallery of pictures in the "Most Recent Gallery"; there are a bunch.
